Wood & Water?
In most cases, attempts are made to insulate wood in such a way that as few environmental influences as possible come into direct contact with the material - this applies in particular to water. This is achieved by applying insulating layers such as varnish, wax or UV oil, which create a barrier between the wood and the environment.
We don't want that and therefore take a different approach. Our natural wood floors can absorb large quantities of water and then gradually release the moisture back into the room air.
Absorbing and Releasing water
Here we have to start with the material itself. Wood is a material that can absorb and release water. In times of high moisture absorption, the wood increases its volume and in times of release, it reduces it again. The differences in volume cause the wood to move, which is known as swelling and shrinking behavior. This applies in a weaker form to the indoor climate, but especially in the bathroom.
This is where the product properties of mafi come into play. The combination of the symmetrical plank structure - responsible for stability - and the open-pored surface - responsible for the diffusion capacity of the wood - enables a moisture cycle without deforming the planks. It is important that the planks are also given time to release the moisture and are not permanently under water, as in a shower, for example.
Another point when dealing with mafi natural wood floors and water is regular soap care and cleaning. Here too, our floors can be wet mopped. However, it is important to use warm water to open the wood pores. The right wood floor soap should also always be an integral part of the mopping process. Floors in the Vulcano series should only be lightly wiped.
